LEADER Theme 5- Exploitation of Digital Technologies

Theme 5 covers projects that aim to support and improve the way community groups and businesses use digital technology. New digital technology provides opportunities for rural areas that can be exploited to promote rural development, entrepreneurialism, social inclusion, and the provision of basic services. Activity on this theme could include developing new apps and programmes, testing new technologies, activities to raise awareness of new digital technologies, demonstrations of how these technologies can be applied for commercial benefit or the provision of services, and digital technology training.

Supported projects include a pilot project trialing the provision of broadband using TV ‘white space’, new augmented reality (AR) apps for providing entertaining interpretation at heritage sites, a feasibility study looking at the best locations for electric-car charging points, and an online training programme for volunteer tourism ambassadors.
