DangerPoint
Area: Holywell
Sector: Education
Grant awarded: £34,764 to install solar panels and batteries.
DangerPoint is an award winning safety education centre that educates school pupils during school term time and opens as a tourist attraction during local school holidays.
It’s a registered charity that was set up by North Wales Police in 2005 and provides an inclusive and interactive life skills experience that immerses children and young people in real life situations in a fun and creative way.
It gives children the opportunity to develop skills that will support them to make positive choices and manage risky scenarios with confidence.
DangerPoint Centre Manager, Julie Ann Tyler, said, “We can usually predict that most costs will increase by a small percentage each year but the large, unexpected increase in utility costs have been particularly challenging this year.
“This grant through the Flintshire Community Key Fund has enabled our charity to install solar panels and batteries at our education centre.
“The panels will produce electricity during the day and any excess will be stored in the batteries for use through the night. They’ve only been installed recently but already we can see a vast reduction in electricity use.
It will enable us to lower our utility costs and becoming more financially sustainable. We hope the grant will enable us to reduce our electricity bills by up to 80% over the year.
“One of DangerPoint’s core values is to deliver our services in the most sustainable way possible and reducing our Carbon emissions forms part of our new Carbon reduction plan. This grant will help us to ensure that we are on the right path to reach our carbon neutral goal.
“It will also have a long-term effect on the charities outgoings and will help us to keep entry costs affordable for the schools, children and families that visit.”
