Feasibility Study on Cycling Excellence for North Wales

Project Area: General News

Cadwyn Clwyd in partnership with the Cycling Interest group and Denbighshire Countryside Services obtained funding through the EU Rural Development Plan for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government in order to commission a Feasibility Study to assess the potential to develop a single product for cycling in North East Wales which could become a ‘Tourism Centre of Cycling Excellence’ as defined by VisitWales. Whilst focusing on the rural areas of Denbighshire it is recognised that there is an opportunity to extend the boundaries and work in partnership with Flintshire, Conwy and Gwynedd.

After a competitive tendering process the contract was awarded to a small specialist team comprising:
·        Ian Parkin, Parkin Heritage and Tourism
·         Andrew Meredith, Meredith Consultants
who were invited to involve the specialist expertise of:
·         Arran Cartwright, Cartwright Associates

which has proven to be an extremely valuable and fulfilling partnership.

The study found that Denbighshire already has an excellent foundation on which to develop its cycling product. It believes the partners need to come together as a formal partnership with agreed Terms of Reference for the Tourism Centre of Cycling Excellence bid to be submitted.

The feasibility study is available to download.
